Vaccination tracking should answer three questions immediately:
What does this daycare require?
Does this animal currently meet those requirements?
When does that change?
If staff need to open an email attachment and manually compare dates every morning, the system is not doing enough.
Vaccines should belong to the animal record
A vaccination is not really a customer field.
It belongs to the animal.
That sounds obvious, but software design gets this wrong surprisingly often.
One household may have three dogs.
One may be current.
One may be expiring next week.
One may not attend daycare at all.
Their records need to remain distinct.
Expiration dates should create action
Good software should make upcoming expirations visible before they become operational problems.
The useful workflow is:
record received,
status updated,
expiry understood,
reminder issued,
new record supplied,
status renewed.
Simple.
Nobody needs to create a futuristic AI robot to solve this.
We just need software that remembers things humans should not have to remember manually.
